Kevin Baillie, VFX supervisor on the film “Welcome to Marwen,” talks about how his team transferred the life and soul of actors’ performances to digital dolls with a unique virtual production solution. The team built out a detailed version of Marwen’s miniature doll town in Unreal Engine, giving director Robert Zemeckis the ability to do real-time previews of motion capture, targeted to costumed doll characters, against the sequences’ actual backdrops.
