The set builders from the original movies were invited back to work on The Force Awakens and after 43 years, now had their own offspring helping them build the sets and work on the VFX.

Lupita Ny'ongo admitted to having felt out of place while walking around on her knees in a mo-cap suit and full headgear. Luckily she had mo-cap expert Andy Serkis for direction.

The DNEG Stereo team had the task of showing us how alien the environment feels when everything is out of scale.
To do this, they compressed the backgrounds and brought the characters forward, increasing the depth of field. They also amplified Ant-Man’s internal volume which served to miniaturise him further in this massive world.

Filmed mostly in the Nambian desert, the 2000 vfx shots required sometimes insane amounts of added dust and sand. For this visual effects team Iloura relied heavily on Houdini's dust and particle systems.
